PA Catalyst’s contraceptive access policy resources, including coding documentation, datasets, and interactive maps, are available to individuals and organizations whose proposed use aligns with the mission and values of PA Catalyst and CONVERGE at the University of Pittsburgh.
Our Datasets
Our three contraceptive policy datasets track the adoption of key contraceptive access policies across all 50 states and the District of Columbia as of December 2025. For jurisdictions that have enacted these policies, the datasets also include relevant policy dates and detailed provision information, including but not limited to:
ACA Contraceptive Mandate
Insurance types covered by the policy (e.g., Medicaid, commercial, state employee plans)
Contraceptive methods or categories that must be covered without cost sharing
Prior authorization requirements
Extended Supply of Contraception
Insurance types covered by this policy (e.g., Medicaid, commercial, and state employee)
Mechanism used to establish the policy (e.g., statute, administrative code/ regulation), or state plan amendment)
Longest duration of contraceptive supplies that must be covered under the policy.
Pharmacist Provision of Contraception
Mechanism used to establish pharmacist prescribing authority (e.g., prescriptive authority, standing order, or collaborative practice agreement)
Reimbursement requirements or provisions
Contraceptive methods or categories that pharmacists may prescribe and dispense under the policy
